What is the RunFest: Grand Prix Race?
RunFest: Grand Prix Race is a competitive 1 km‑loop running event in Kuala Lumpur, held 26–28 March 2027 at KL Wellness City, Bukit Jalil. It borrows the Formula 1 weekend format: runners qualify, the fastest go through to semi-finals, and the quickest of those meet in the final. Soloist races on the Saturday night and the SEKIDEN relay on the Sunday morning. It is organised by Unikorn Events Sdn Bhd as part of Kuala Lumpur RunFest.
What is SEKIDEN?
SEKIDEN is our Short-Ekiden — a 3-person team relay on the 1 km circuit. Each runner completes 4 laps (4 km) before passing the tasuki (the traditional Ekiden sash) to the next runner in the exchange zone, for 12 km in total. There is no baton. Categories are SEKIDEN Men, SEKIDEN Women and SEKIDEN Mix (maximum 2 men per team). Entry is per team, from RM299 at super early bird pricing.
How does the Soloist qualifying and finals format work?
Soloists run 5 km (5 laps) in a qualifying session on the Saturday evening. The fastest 60 go through to a 3 km semi-final, and the fastest 30 of those to the 3 km final later that night.
How long does it take to run a 5 km race?
Most recreational runners finish 5 km in 25–40 minutes; competitive runners aiming for the final will be well under 20 minutes. The Grand Prix Race circuit is a flat 1 km urban loop, so it suits fast times. You do not need to reach the final to take part — the 5 km qualifying session is a full race in itself.
Who can enter, and what are the age categories?
Soloist categories are Men's Open and Women's Open (18–39) and Men's Veteran and Women's Veteran (40+). SEKIDEN teams are open to any age combination of three adults. You must be 18 or over on race day. Age category is based on your age on race day.
How much does it cost and when do prices go up?
Registration runs in four tiers, allocated by quantity and counted separately for Soloist and SEKIDEN. A tier moves to the next automatically when its allocation for that category sells out. Returnees pay RM89 per Soloist and RM269 per SEKIDEN team — 300 per category, by email invitation. Super early bird is RM99 / RM299, 250 per category. Early bird is RM109 / RM329, 500 per category. Regular is RM129 / RM369 until the category cap is reached or registration closes on 28 February 2027. There is no race-day registration.

How does Soloist qualifying work?
Qualifying is ranked on your fastest single lap, not your total time, so one good lap puts you through. You still have to finish all 5 laps within 35 minutes. The fastest 60 go to the 3 km semi-final and the fastest 30 of those to the 3 km final.
How does the SEKIDEN relay work?
Each leg is one lap of the 1 km circuit, and the three runners rotate through it — 12 legs in qualifying for 12 km, 6 in the final for 6 km. Whatever order your team runs its first three legs in is locked for the rest of the race. Qualifying has a 70-minute cut-off, and any leg slower than 7:30 carries a 60-second penalty.
Can I transfer my bib to someone else?
Yes, through the CheckpointSpot Marketplace only, for a RM20 processing fee. The deadline is 28 February 2027, the same day registration closes. There are no refunds and no deferments.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The race goes ahead rain or shine. A haze protocol applies based on API readings and is set out in the Rules & Regulations, which will be published on this page before race pack collection.
What are the prizes?
SEKIDEN Men, Women and Mix each award RM1,500 / RM1,050 / RM750 per team for first, second and third. Soloist Men and Women, Open and Veteran, each award RM500 / RM350 / RM250.
